Today, 22 September is a special day for two reasons:

  1. Cardano’s Vasil Hard Fork
  2. Gingko Biloba planting by Quanterall’s team

As one Reddit user commented on Charles Hoskinson’s post about the

Naming a hard fork event after him is an excellent way to honour his memory. Planting trees is an excellent way to continue his dreams.

Vasil St Dabov started a Cardano staking pool (named GINKGO) in September 2020. Throughout his life, he planted more than 10 000 trees, mostly Ginkgo Biloba. The continuation of this legacy is an important part of the pool’s mission which has always been and continues to be:

  • to provide a good service to its delegators
  • to enrich the biodiversity of Ginkgo Biloba

The original GINKGO pool is succeeded by the VASIL staking pool. To help support the trees which Vasil planted delegate to the VASIL pool.

After his passing in December 2021, Cardano announced that the next hard fork will carry his name — Vasil — in memory and continuation of his legacy and mission. We, at Quanterall, chose the same date — 22 September to plant 3 Gingko trees at the Sea Garden in Varna.

Here is what Anton Andonov, the CEO of Quanterall has to share about his work with Vasil:

In 2017, at a blockchain event, I meet Vasil Dubov and start discussing blockchain and other topics. I was impressed by his personality. He believed in the metaphysical foundations of the world and that the real reasons for what happens are outside the physical world.

In September 2019, he brought the management of IOHK, Emurgo and Cardano Foundation to Plovdiv to celebrate Cardano’s second birthday.

From late 2019 until the end of his life, he worked as a blockchain consultant at Quanterall. Except on blockchain projects we worked on restoring biodiversity and planting trees.

And so until December, when after his return from a Blockchain conference in Barcelona, Vasil passed away. In his bright memory, we keep his legacy.
